Nyamira: Two hundred and twelve out of 233 students who were awarded scholarships by the Nyamira county government attained a C+ (plus) or above grade in the 2025 KCSE examination results, thus qualifying for direct entry to public universities.

According to Kenya News Agency, Governor Amos Nyaribo, while presiding over the thanksgiving and celebration at Uhuru Gardens in Nyamira town, expressed his satisfaction with the performance of the first cohort under his scholarship program. He emphasized the importance of supporting bright but needy students to access education and encouraged them to maintain their performance at tertiary education levels for further support.

Governor Nyaribo also advised current scholarship beneficiaries in forms three and four to put great effort into their studies, cautioning that failure to meet expectations could result in losing their scholarship to other deserving students.

CECM for Education Emily Ongaga credited the students’ good performance to the collaborative efforts with head teachers and the mentorship sessions organized during holidays, which helped students overcome challenges like Gender-Based Violence and mental health issues.

One of the successful students, Beavon Onyancha from Nyambaria High School, who scored an A-, shared his gratitude for the scholarship, which provided him with an opportunity that his family could not afford. Onyancha encouraged fellow scholars to continue working hard to transform their families’ lives.
