Nyakach Girls’ National School Surpasses KCSE Performance Target

Kisumu county: Nyakach Girls’ National School has recorded an impressive achievement in the 2025 KCSE exam results, surpassing its performance target with a mean score of 9.09. This marks a significant improvement from the 2024 mean score of 7.01, highlighting a turnaround attributed to rigorous preparation, disciplined students, and robust support from teachers, parents, and the Board of Management.

According to Kenya News Agency, the school presented 699 candidates for the 2025 KCSE examinations, with 690 achieving the minimum university entry grade of C+ and above, resulting in a 98.6 percent transition rate. The remaining nine candidates scored C plain, qualifying them for diploma programs in technical and vocational institutions.

Deputy Principal Tom Opondo expressed gratitude for the results, emphasizing the role of deliberate preparation and a dedicated school community. The school exceeded its mean score target of 8.27, a success Opondo credits to teamwork among teachers, students, parents, and the Board of Management under chairperson Ruth Okowa.

Nyakach Girls School’s excellence extends beyond academics, with notable achievements in co-curricular activities. The school’s soccer team has competed at national and East Africa levels and contributed players to the Kenya national women’s team, Harambee Starlets. Additionally, students represented Kenya at the Africa Scramble Championship in Mombasa last July, and the music department also posted strong performances.

Deputy Principal George Oluoch Scott attributed the academic success to early syllabus completion, constant teacher-student engagement, and strict discipline. The school’s 9-6-3 policy ensures Form One and Two syllabi are completed by September, Form Three by June, and the entire Form Four syllabus by March, allowing ample time for revision and addressing learning gaps.

Discipline played a crucial role in implementing demanding academic programs smoothly. Oluoch expressed confidence in maintaining the upward trajectory, targeting further improvement in university qualifiers.

Nyakach Girls’ results reinforce its status as a top-performing national school, establishing its reputation as a center of academic excellence in the region.
