Madiany: The National Government Constituencies Development Fund (NG-CDF) National Board has launched the construction of a Sh7 million police station at Madiany Trading Centre in Rarieda Constituency, Siaya County. Speaking during the groundbreaking ceremony, NG-CDF National Board Chief Executive Officer Benjamin Magut stated that the construction of the facility is expected to be completed within 20 weeks.
According to Kenya News Agency, the new police station is the second project undertaken by the NG-CDF National Board in Rarieda Sub-County in the last two financial years, following the completion of a similar facility at Riat Kolemo Trading Centre at a cost of Sh16 million. Magut highlighted that, in the past eight years, the NG-CDF Board has constructed 14 police stations nationwide, with two of them located in Rarieda Sub-County at a total cost of Sh23 million.
Magut emphasized the NG-CDF National Board’s decision to support additional projects in Rarieda Sub-County in honor of area MP Dr. Otiende Amollo, recognizing his efforts against attempts to disband the NG-CDF. Magut noted that the courts have declared NG-CDF unconstitutional and were set to close by June 30, 2026. However, legal defense led by Dr. Otiende Amollo has allowed the board to continue its operations, pending a Court of Appeal ruling on the matter.
The CEO further announced that, besides the two police station projects, Rarieda Sub-County would receive an additional Sh8 million project of Amollo’s choice, funded by the NG-CDF National Board. Magut instructed the contractor to employ locals as manual laborers and complete the project within the specified timeframe.
Dr. Amollo expressed that the two police station projects by the NG-CDF Board would enhance security and promote trade in the region. He mentioned that the Sh7 million police station at Madiany would replace the current outdated facility, built in 1976, now in a state of disrepair.
The MP shared his vision of reviving Madiany Trading Centre, which faced challenges after the collapse of the cotton industry in the 1980s, through the development of various public facilities. He mentioned the modern law courts, operating at a cost of Sh40 million from the Judiciary, the Sh900 million Level Four Madiany Hospital constructed with Ministry of Health support, and the planned offices for the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (ODPP).
Furthermore, Dr. Amollo revealed that tenders have been awarded for upgrading the Gagra-Madiany-Ndigwa-Gudwa road to bitumen standards, a development anticipated to improve transport and trade in the area.
