New Assistant County Commissioner’s Office Opens in Bukhayo Central

Bukhayo Central:Residents of Bukhayo Central Division in Busia County now have improved access to national government administrative services with the opening of a new Assistant County Commissioner’s (ACC) office at Malanga.

According to Kenya News Agency, the Sh4.75 million facility was constructed through the National Government Constituencies Development Fund (NG-CDF) and is expected to reduce the travel time and expenses previously incurred by residents going to Nambale for government services. Western Regional Commissioner Allan Machari, who commissioned the office, emphasized the importance of bringing government services closer to residents and pledged to make all necessary services available at the new facility.

Residents have welcomed the new office, with James Okumu from Lwanyange village highlighting the reduction in travel costs and time. However, he noted the need for decentralised services such as birth certificate and national identity card registration to the new location. Similarly, Africanus Juma from Malanga Sub-location praised the area’s MP, Geoffrey Mulanya, for supporting the project’s construction and called for a police post to boost local security.

The new office is expected to significantly impact the community, particularly for women and other residents who previously had to travel long distances. Resident Gladys Omondi pointed out the benefits for women and urged further decentralization of services to minimize travel burdens and costs.

Chief Edwin Odhiambo of Bukhayo Central Location expressed optimism about the operationalisation of the division office, predicting improved productivity among residents as they will no longer need to travel to Nambale. He urged the government to establish civil registration and national identity card services at the facility and to operationalize additional sub-locations for better local administration.

The new office is anticipated to support local development initiatives and promote peace and cohesion within the community, according to Commissioner Machari.
