Mombasa: The National Government has operationalized Pawteng’ sub-location in Nyang’oma location, Muhoroni constituency, Kisumu county, in a move aimed at bringing public services closer to more than 5,000 residents. The new administrative unit was officially launched on Friday at Pawteng Primary School and Ms. Everlyn Akella was installed as the area Assistant Chief.
According to Kenya News Agency, North-East Kano Deputy County Commissioner Beatrice Bikeyo urged residents during the occasion to work closely with national government administration officials to overcome persistent security challenges in the area. Bikeyo also challenged the newly appointed Assistant Chief to uphold integrity, professionalism, and high moral standards while discharging her duties. She emphasized the importance of conducting oneself with respect to earn the trust of the locals.
Nyang’oma Location Chief Joseph Gwaye commended the administration of President William Ruto for establishing new administrative units to improve access to government services at the grassroots. Gwaye called on the local community to support the new Assistant Chief as she takes up her new responsibilities.
On her part, Assistant Chief Akella pledged to work with residents and other stakeholders to promote peace, security, and social cohesion. She highlighted that development cannot occur in the presence of insecurity, conflict, or violence, and urged residents to reject any forms of violence and criminal activities. Akella remarked that the establishment of the new sub-location marks a new chapter of close government services, strong community engagement, and inclusive development.
The Nyang’oma Location, which boasts a population of more than 5,000 people, now consists of four sub-locations: Wangaya 1, Sidho East 2, Kamswa South, and Pawteng’. The Ministry of Interior and National Administration is in the process of operationalizing newly created administrative units across Kisumu County and other parts of the country, with recruitment of chiefs and assistant chiefs ongoing for these new locations and sub-locations.
