Nairobi International Trade Fair Highlights Kenya’s Economic Evolution

Nairobi:The Nairobi International Trade Fair is transforming Jamhuri Park into a hub of agriculture, business, technology, education, and innovation, as exhibitors and visitors gather for the 2026 edition from September 28 to October 4.

According to Kenya News Agency, the fair, initially an agricultural and horticultural exhibition, has evolved into a major platform reflecting Kenya’s diverse economic landscape. Established in 1901 as the East African Agricultural and Horticultural Society, it held its first show in 1902 at Jeevanjee Gardens and Market. The event formally became a trade fair in 2002, expanding beyond agriculture to include manufacturing, finance, education, technology, and more.

This year’s theme, ‘Promoting Climate Smart Agriculture and Trade Initiatives for Sustainable Economic Growth,’ emphasizes climate resilience and economic development. The fair showcases technologies like drones and artificial intelligence, underscoring agriculture’s growing connection to digital innovation.

Education plays a significant role, with schools and universities participating through exhibitions and competitions. These contests offer students and institutions a chance to demonstrate practical skills aligned with industry needs. Notable achievements in past editions include Kenyatta University and the University of Nairobi’s recognition for their educational displays.

The fair facilitates interactions among farmers, technology providers, businesses, researchers, and entrepreneurs, fostering business connections, knowledge exchange, and technology adoption. Visitors experience products firsthand, engaging directly with exhibitors.

The Nairobi Trade Fair’s historical transformation from its beginnings in 1902 reflects broader economic shifts in Kenya. It remains a vital platform for showcasing the country’s agricultural roots and its future in technology, education, and trade.
