Thika: Graduates have been urged to convert the talents, skills, and creativity nurtured during their studies into income-generating ventures as a pathway to overcoming unemployment. Mount Kenya University (MKU) Vice Chancellor Prof. Deogratius Jaganyi emphasized the need for innovation and commercialization of abilities during the university’s 28th Graduation Ceremony in Thika, highlighting the demand for graduates who can create opportunities rather than rely solely on traditional employment.
According to Kenya News Agency, Prof. Jaganyi stated that MKU has deliberately integrated talent development, co-curricular excellence, and hands-on skill-building into the academic journey to equip learners for a rapidly evolving labor market. He noted that graduates have been exposed to activities designed to grow their talents and equip them with critical abilities, thanks to the university’s sustained investment in sports, performing arts, and creative industries.
The university’s achievements, such as being crowned the best private university at the 97th Kenya National Music Festivals and performing strongly at various regional competitions, underscore the marketable skills students possess. Prof. Jaganyi urged graduates to leverage their training and position themselves for opportunities in Kenya’s growing creative and sports economy.
MKU founder and Board Chairman Prof. Simon Gicharu highlighted the university’s international placement programs, especially the successful partnerships in Germany, which have benefited nursing apprentices. He encouraged graduates to seize international opportunities to convert their skills into meaningful careers.
