Mombasa: Mombasa County Commissioner (CC), Mohamed Noor, has assured residents and visitors to the coastal city of enhanced security as the festive season gets underway. Speaking during the 62nd Jamhuri Day Celebrations in Changamwe Sub-county, CC Noor said security has been scaled up across all parts of Mombasa, which is experiencing a surge in both domestic and international tourists.
According to Kenya News Agency, CC Noor emphasized the readiness of security forces to protect visitors and residents, acknowledging the presence of fraudsters targeting unsuspecting holidaymakers booking accommodations online. He noted that the Directorate of Criminal Investigation is actively pursuing such cases to prevent fraud.
The County Commissioner commended police efforts in arresting 36 suspected criminals in Kisauni Sub-county, stating that similar operations in Likoni Sub-county aim to dismantle criminal gangs. He highlighted a collaborative approach involving police, National Government Administrative Officers, Nyumba Kumi elders, and residents to ensure safety in Mombasa.
On beach safety, CC Noor announced the deployment of Kenya Wildlife Service personnel to support Tourism Police Units and Chiefs. He emphasized preventive measures such as ending swimming activities at 6 PM to prevent accidents and urged hotels to provide lifeguards at swimming pools.
CC Noor also addressed parental responsibility, urging vigilance over children’s activities during the holiday season to prevent inappropriate behavior influenced by social media or peers.
Regarding development, the County Commissioner detailed government investments in expanding road networks and constructing affordable housing and markets. He highlighted the ongoing housing projects in Nyali and Hobley Estate, each allocated Sh7 billion, as well as modern hostels for the Kenya Medical Training College in Changamwe and Shanzu Teachers College in Kisauni.
He encouraged Mombasa residents to register on the Boma Yangu platform to access the new housing opportunities being developed.
