Migori: Residents of Migori County have welcomed President William Ruto’s Meet the People and Development tour in the Nyanza Region. They believe that the development projects initiated by President Ruto in the region will bolster his support as he seeks reelection.
According to Kenya News Agency, Kennedy Nyambok, a resident of Nyatike Sub-county, highlighted that the Migori County Aggregation and Industrial Park (CAIP), developed in collaboration with the National and County governments, is set to create employment and self-development opportunities for the local population. The residents have noted significant projects such as affordable housing, road construction, water facilities, and stadiums being accomplished under President Ruto’s leadership in Migori County.
The Government Delivery Unit, which visited Migori County earlier this month, reported that the region has 14 road projects totaling 202 kilometers under construction to bitumen standards at a cost of 8.5 billion. Additionally, there are 42 projects under the Housing Project, including affordable housing, markets, and institutional houses, valued at 12 billion. Other major projects under President Ruto include the rehabilitation and renovation of the Lichota Airstrip, completion of the Awendo-Masaba Power transmission line, and the Lower Kuja Irrigation Scheme in Nyatike.
Argwens Otieno, a resident of Uriri Sub-county, expressed concerns about the closed Migori Bridge and urged the president to prioritize its reconstruction to alleviate the traffic congestion on the Migori-Kisii highway. The Kenya National Highway Authority (KENHA) had closed the bridge in February due to compromised structural integrity caused by rising water levels of River Migori.
President Ruto is scheduled to visit Migori County on Wednesday, 16, 2026, where he will inspect various government projects underway.
