Migori: Preparations for the 2026 Agricultural Society of Kenya (ASK) South West Kenya Branch-Migori are progressing steadily, with organisers reporting that the venue is 72 per cent ready for the four-day event scheduled for September 24 to 27 at the Lichota Showground. Speaking during an on-site evaluation, South West Kenya Branch-Migori Chairman Daniel Kenyanta said preparations were on course to ensure a successful exhibition.
According to Kenya News Agency, Kenyanta urged farmers, trade partners, and members of the public to attend the event in large numbers, emphasizing the show’s importance as a platform to showcase the region’s agricultural potential, set strategic priorities, and address food security challenges. ASK Chief Executive Officer Batram Muthoka highlighted that the 2026 show will be held under the theme of promoting climate-smart agriculture and trade initiatives for sustainable economic growth.
The Migori Show aims to focus on sustainability, adaptability, and climate resilience, while providing farmers and business operators with access to modern agricultural technologies, innovations, and strategies for dealing with the effects of climate change. Muthoka noted that the current level of venue readiness represents a significant improvement from the 55 per cent recorded at a similar stage last year.
He also disclosed that work was progressing well across key areas of the showground, including entry gates, the main arena, livestock pens, and catering facilities, with organisers working to ensure the venue is ready to accommodate visitors, families, and business delegations. About 70 exhibitors are expected to participate, with more than 40 already confirmed. Organisers also anticipate between 150,000 and 200,000 visitors during the four-day exhibition.
The event is also expected to attract exhibitors and participants from South Nyanza Counties, which include Homa Bay, Nyamira, and Kisii. Agriculture Principal Secretary (PS), Dr. Paul Rono, is expected to preside as the Guest of Honour, alongside Migori County Governor Ochillo Ayacko and leaders from neighbouring counties.
