Migori:Clinical officers in Migori have resumed work following a resolution to their month-long strike after reaching a return-to-work agreement with the county government. The agreement addressed key issues such as compensation, career progression, and health coverage.
According to Kenya News Agency, the Kenya Union of Clinical Officers (KUCO) Migori Branch directed its members to return to their duties within 24 hours after successful negotiations with county health officials. The Secretary of the Kenya Clinical Officer-Migori Branch, Maurine Maramba, announced the end of the strike at the Migori County Referral Hospital.
The agreement resolved significant administrative and welfare concerns, including the implementation of clinical career guidelines, correct job group alignment for clinicians, enhanced risk allowances, and comprehensive medical cover. It also included a provision to drop disciplinary actions against union members taken during the strike.
Union leaders stressed that the continuation of work would depend on the county’s adherence to the agreed terms, with a three-month period set to monitor compliance. Should the county fail to fulfill the terms, the union plans to reopen negotiations.
County health officials expressed relief at the agreement, assuring residents that clinical operations have resumed across all public health facilities. Dan Ochieng, Migori County Director of Medical Services, commended the collaborative efforts to resolve the strike and encouraged residents to access healthcare services without hesitation.
