Matiang’i Calls for Transparency in Dangote Refinery and Mining Deals

Mombasa:Jubilee Party leader Dr. Fred Matiang’i has intensified demands for the government to reveal details of the Sh2.2 trillion Dangote East African Oil Refinery in Lamu and related mining concessions to promote transparency and accountability.

According to Kenya News Agency, Matiang’i, speaking during a coalition agreement signing with KADU Asili, emphasized the need for the government to provide clear answers rather than dismiss the opposition’s concerns about secretive projects. He also urged swift prosecution of those implicated in the failed Dangote factory corruption allegations from the Jubilee administration era.

Matiang’i criticized government leaders for inaction, stating they should use their authority to arrest and prosecute wrongdoers rather than provide excuses. He also condemned the use of abusive language by politicians against their opponents, advocating for respectful discourse.

He highlighted the importance of leaders receiving answers to accountability questions instead of insults, urging the government to disclose information about licenses and agreements to Parliament for scrutiny. Matiang’i noted that the National Assembly and Senate lack crucial details on certain projects, raising accountability concerns.

The Jubilee leader dismissed claims of the opposition lacking a national agenda, affirming their commitment to political engagement for the country’s benefit. He announced that the coalition with KADU Asili aims to implement the Coast Integrated Development Plan 2027-2037, focusing on employment creation and resource management.

Matiang’i affirmed the opposition’s intention to field a unified presidential candidate in the 2027 General Election. KADU Asili leader Mudzo Dzili expressed support for Matiang’i’s presidency, advocating for a non-tribal, inclusive government.
