Man Arrested in Maralal Town for Indiscriminate Shooting

Maralal: Police in Maralal town have arrested a man who fired an AK 47 rifle indiscriminately in Shabaa village on Wednesday morning. Speaking to KNA, area Assistant Chief Zablon Lekangu confirmed that five gunshots were fired in different areas of Shabaa, prompting an armed police response.

According to Kenya News Agency, the Assistant Chief, accompanied by Administration police officers and assisted by members of the public, apprehended the suspect opposite a bank in Maralal town. The suspect was disarmed and found in possession of an AK 47 rifle with 22 rounds of ammunition, after which he was taken to Maralal police station for formal charges.

Assistant Chief Lekangu stated that the suspect is well known and is a repeat offender linked to several crimes in the area. He also noted that no one, including the suspect, was injured during the forty-minute ordeal and thanked the public for their cooperation with the police in capturing the suspect.

Additionally, the Assistant Chief urged the residents to report any individuals in possession of illegal firearms and encouraged those holding such weapons to surrender them to the nearest police station or chief’s office.
