Makueni: The Department of Health in Makueni has received a consignment of essential drugs to be distributed to all health facilities across the county, the Chief Officer for Health Services, Dr. Harvey Mulei, has disclosed. Among the drugs that will be distributed are those for diabetes and hypertension, antibiotics, injectables, painkillers, syrups, and paediatric drugs.
According to Kenya News Agency, the drugs are scheduled to be placed in lorries on Friday and distributed to 16 Level Four Hospitals, the County Referral Hospital, and all health centres and dispensaries within the county. Dr. Mulei made this announcement during an inspection tour of the construction of the Maternity Wing at Sultan Hamud Level Hospital on Thursday.
The drugs were purchased by the County Government of Makueni from the Kenya Medical Supplies Authority (KEMSA). The county has collaborated with KEMSA to ensure timely supply of drugs to hospitals. During the inspection, Dr. Mulei also revealed that the construction of the Maternity Wing at Sultan Hamud Hospital is in partnership with Safaricom, costing Sh60 million.
The Chief Officer noted the intention to commission the construction of the Maternity Wing, which will have a 50-bed capacity and also serve children, by November 2025. Additionally, the Spouse of Makueni Governor, Anita Mutula, toured the hospital to assess its progress.
