Makueni County Assembly Approves Sh12.4 Billion Budget for 2026/2027

Makueni: Members of County Assembly (MCAs) at Makueni County Assembly have approved a budget of Sh12.4 billion for the 2026/2027 financial year. The budget statement was presented by Denis Mutinda Musyoka, the Budget Committee Chair and MCA for Kako/Waia Ward, in a session presided over by County Speaker Douglas Mbilu.

According to Kenya News Agency, Musyoka outlined that the budget will be funded through an equitable share of Sh9 billion, own source revenue of Sh1.6 billion, and conditional grants and loans totaling Sh1.3 billion. The Health Department is set to receive the largest allocation of Sh4.9 billion, which will be distributed among dispensaries, health centers, and hospitals throughout the county. Musyoka emphasized the importance of funding for these health facilities.

Significant allocations were also made to other departments, including ICT, Education and Internship with Sh1.1 billion, Water and Sanitation with Sh876 million, and Devolution Public Participation and County Administration and Special Programmes with Sh440 million. Musyoka highlighted plans to build more classrooms for Early Childhood Development Education under the ICT, Education, and Internship budget and noted the allocation for emergencies in anticipation of El Nino.

The Department of Agriculture received Sh472 million, while the Kalamba Fruit Processing Plant was allocated Sh132 million. An additional Sh50 million was designated for purchasing mangoes from farmers. The county assembly itself was allocated Sh854 million, alongside funding for other governmental departments.
