Kisii: The Magenche Adventist Women’s Ministry from Kenyenya Sub-County in Kisii has urged the government to take immediate action to enhance the living conditions of inmates at the Kisii GK main prison. During an outreach event at the facility in Kisii town, the women highlighted the pressing issues faced by lactating mothers in the women’s section and the congestion and poor hygiene in the men’s section that threaten inmates’ health.
According to Kenya News Agency, Sarah Job, a member of the ministry, emphasized the need for collaboration between the government and the church to address these challenges. The ministry’s Chairlady, Periz Osiemo, raised concerns about wrongful convictions resulting from fabricated evidence, calling for leniency from the courts, particularly for petty offenders who serve lengthy sentences despite being the sole breadwinners for their families.
Florence Okero, another ministry member, underscored the importance of evangelism programs in rehabilitating inmates and facilitating their reintegration into society, which in turn can help reduce crime rates.
