Malindi: Gandini Comprehensive School in Malindi Sub-county, Kilifi, is poised for a significant upgrade as the M-Pesa Foundation launches a Sh35 million infrastructure renovation project at the institution.

According to Kenya News Agency, Patricia Ithau, a Trustee at the M-Pesa Foundation, announced that the organization plans to completely renovate the school by constructing a new administration block, six classrooms, a science lab, a computer lab, an ablution block, and a modern kitchen.

During the official launch, Ms. Ithau highlighted that this project is part of a broader initiative aimed at renovating infrastructure in 500 to 600 schools nationwide over the next three years. “We at M-Pesa Foundation have made a commitment that we are going to renovate between 500 and 600 schools across the country in the next three years,” she stated, alongside Malindi Member of Parliament, Amina Mnyazi, as they officially launched the project.

Hellen Mwaringa, the Head Teacher of the institution, expressed enthusiasm and hope that the new facilities would attract more learners, noting that the facility will stand out in the area upon completion. “The entire primary section will be housed in a new block extending to the perimeter fence. We are extremely grateful for the support from the M-Pesa Foundation,” she remarked.

Ms. Mnyazi praised the Foundation’s efforts, noting that they complement the National Government Constituency Development Fund (NG-CDF) in the rehabilitation of dilapidated schools. She acknowledged the significant role organizations like the M-Pesa Foundation play in addressing the school infrastructure development challenge. “The burden of school infrastructure development is immense, and organizations like the M-Pesa Foundation play a crucial role in bridging the funding gap. I am deeply appreciative of the reconstruction work underway at this school,” she said, urging the Foundation to extend its assistance to more schools in her constituency.
