Gatanga: Leaders from the Mount Kenya region have stepped up efforts to rally support for the Government, citing ongoing and completed development projects as evidence of its commitment to improving the lives of Kenyans. Led by National Assembly Majority Leader Kimani Ichung’wah, the leaders urged residents to maintain peace, cohesion, and tolerance as political temperatures rise ahead of the 2027 General Election.
According to Kenya News Agency, the leaders, speaking during a UDA grassroots consultative meeting at Kirwara Boys in Gatanga Constituency, emphasized the Government’s focus on implementing its election manifesto and fulfilling promises made to the electorate. Ichung’wah highlighted the commissioning of several development projects, such as affordable housing units and modern markets, with more projects in the pipeline.
Ichung’wah called on Kenyans to continue supporting the Government as it implements its development agenda. He criticized opposition leaders for engaging in premature campaigns and making inflammatory remarks, urging political leaders to let the Government concentrate on delivering services before the official campaign period begins.
Murang’a County Woman Representative Betty Maina echoed the call for unity, urging leaders and the public to promote peaceful coexistence and national cohesion. She emphasized the need for the Government to deliver on promises related to healthcare, education, and infrastructure before the elections.
Maina encouraged voters to exercise their democratic rights responsibly by electing leaders who prioritize development. She also criticized opposition leaders for allegedly making inflammatory statements, urging politicians to avoid remarks that could incite the public.
Mathira Member of Parliament Eric Wamumbi cautioned politicians against personal attacks and character assassination, advocating for political competition conducted with maturity and respect. Wamumbi urged residents to support the Government’s development programmes, noting that major projects would benefit communities and improve livelihoods.
