Mombasa:Cabinet Secretary for Lands, Public Works, Housing and Urban Development, Alice Wahome, has commended the staff of the State Department for Lands and Physical Planning for their consistent excellence in service delivery. She highlighted the department’s achievements during the launch of the 2026 Customer Service Week celebration at the Geospatial Data Center.
According to Kenya News Agency, Wahome praised the department’s accomplishments at the 2026 Digital Transformation Public Sector Forum and Awards in Mombasa, where it was named State Department of the Year and received six awards. These accolades recognize efforts such as the National Stamp Duty Module and initiatives like ArdhiPay and the National Land Information Management System.
Wahome emphasized the significance of the department’s programs, including the national titling program, which recently achieved a milestone by distributing 300,000 title deeds in the Coast region. This initiative aims to transition residents from squatter status to rightful landowners, following President William Ruto’s directive.
The President has tasked the department with maintaining its momentum through the Rapid Response Initiative, targeting an additional 200,000 title deeds by December. The department also received recognition at the Africa Digital Economy Awards and for adherence to public service values and principles in recent financial years.
Principal Secretary for Lands and Physical Planning, Nixon Korir, echoed Wahome’s sentiments, crediting the department’s success to teamwork, digitization, and enhanced efficiency. He encouraged staff to continue upholding high standards of professionalism and integrity, noting the essential role of land services in the nation’s economic framework.
The department has hosted workshops for stakeholders in the land sector, including lawyers, bankers, and surveyors, to further improve service delivery. After the event, Wahome addressed the media, confirming that most land for the Dangote East Africa Refinery in Lamu is public land, with the government committed to resolving any arising grievances.
