Kitale: Deputy Inspector General (DIG) of police Eliud Lagat has voiced support for the ongoing security operation meant to weed out criminal gangs in Trans Nzoia County. Speaking in Kitale after presiding over the graduation of 57 national police reservists, Lagat said the operation, which is largely targeting organised gangs, has seen several suspects arrested and arraigned in court.
According to Kenya News Agency, Lagat attributed the success of the exercise to strengthened community policing, emphasizing that collaboration between the public and security teams has played a vital role in the identification of the culprits. ‘We have made tremendous progress since the start of the operation. A number of suspects have been arrested and taken to court, and we are committed to ensuring all those involved in criminal activities are brought to book,’ he said.
The DIG urged residents to continue providing information to the police, noting that public support remains crucial in sustaining security gains. ‘Our engagement with the community has helped us understand the importance of working together to maintain security. We encourage citizens to continue sharing information with us,’ he added.
Pointing out the culture of goons and robbery as the main security challenges in the region, the DIG assured that the ongoing operation will restore stability. ‘We must ensure that the people of Trans-Nzoia enjoy lasting peace. The operation will continue until we achieve a safer and more stable county,’ he said, urging police officers to leave no stone unturned.
Trans Nzoia County Commissioner Gideon Oyagi urged leaders from the region to support the operation and resist the temptation of allowing politics to derail the noble course, assuring that human rights will be respected at all times by the team overseeing the operation. The graduation of the 57 NPR is expected to enhance security in Agricultural Development Corporation (ADC) farms, with a focus on protecting farm produce and curbing theft.
