Kwale:Governor Fatuma Achani has allocated a Sh18.7 million grant to 20 farmers’ Savings and Credit Cooperative Organizations (SACCOs) and farmer organizations in the county, aiming to enhance agricultural production and improve the livelihoods of local farmers.
According to Kenya News Agency, the beneficiaries of this grant include Kinango Ward Community Sacco, Mwavumbo Ward Community Sacco, and Tsimba Golini Ward Community Sacco, among others. The funds are intended to help these organizations expand farming activities, access better markets for their produce, and enhance value addition.
During the grant disbursement ceremony at the Kwale County Headquarters, Governor Achani emphasized the county government’s commitment to supporting farmers by strengthening their organizations and improving their capacity for productive economic activities. She urged beneficiaries to use the funds wisely to ensure that the support benefits farmers at the grassroots level.
Matuga MP Kassim Tandaza praised the county government’s initiative, highlighting its potential to bolster local agricultural activities and improve beneficiaries’ livelihoods. He also encouraged the recipient organizations to utilize the funds for their intended purposes to maximize the program’s benefits.
Kwale Savings and Credit Unions Chairman Said Nyondo expressed that the financial support would enhance the unions’ capacity to serve their members and support economic activities. This grant is part of the county government’s broader efforts to promote agriculture and strengthen farmer organizations to boost food production and household incomes in Kwale.
