Kisumu Senator Donates School Supplies to Disadvantaged Learners

Kisumu: Learners from disadvantaged families in Kisumu Central Sub-County now have a reason to smile after Kisumu Senator Professor Tom Ojienda donated an assortment of school accessories, including shoes, to learners in several primary schools within Kisumu County.

According to Kenya News Agency, Kisumu County Senator’s Office Manager Seth Okumu disclosed the donations were made to several primary schools within Kisumu, including Obinju, Manyatta, and Kudho. The assortment of donations, including shoes, targeted learners from schools in the informal settlements like Obinju, Manyatta, and Kudho Primary schools.

The officer in charge of Senator Tom Ojienda’s office, Madam Lydia Odhiambo, speaking on behalf of the Senator, assured that the senator’s office has plans to ascertain the comfort of school-going children from disadvantaged backgrounds as they go to school. ‘The Senator tasked us to ascertain that learners from disadvantaged families across the County do not go to school barefoot nor without uniform,’ pointed Adhiambo. She added that they had distributed 25 uniforms to learners at Obinju Kanyakwar Primary but noted many learners still lack the basic necessities and more donations are needed.

Adhiambo noted that it was not the first time the Senator’s office was making such a donation, but the donation was just in tandem with the senator’s office tendency in line with the Senator’s outreach programs. The various school heads that received the donations hailed the Professor, praising him for his philanthropic heart and development track record.

‘My name is Eddy Ochieng’ and we thank Professor Ojienda for his continued steadfast support to the local schools in Kisumu County,’ hailed the Kudho Primary head teacher, who profoundly thanked Professor Ojienda for yet again donating over 30 pairs of shoes to the learners. The Deputy head teacher at Obinju Kanyakwar Primary School, Judith Okeyo, thanked Senator Ojienda for the kind donation of shoes and other assortments to the learners. She noted that the donation had really excited the learners and boosted their morale, even as she further appealed to the Senator to support in the purchase of game kits for the learners, including to help build the school’s office administration block.
