Kilungu KMTC to Receive New Hostels in Sh150 Million Project

Nairobi:The national government has launched a Sh150 million project to construct hostels at Kilungu Kenya Medical Training College (KMTC) in Makueni County. This initiative aims to enhance student accommodation and boost enrollment at the institution.

According to Kenya News Agency, Aviation and Aerospace Development Principal Secretary Teresia Mbaika announced the commencement of the project during a groundbreaking and handover ceremony held on Friday. The contractor has officially begun work on the site in Kilungu Sub-county.

Mbaika highlighted that the new hostels are expected to address the current accommodation shortfall once completed. She also criticized Kaiti Member of Parliament Joshua Kimilu for delaying the completion of the KMTC project, noting that Sh65 million of government funds remain unaccounted for.

The Principal Secretary emphasized that the college should have already admitted its second or third student cohort if the project had adhered to its original timeline. The delay has spanned seven years, but Mbaika expressed optimism about the current government’s commitment to advancing local development, including providing electricity connections to homes.

She reaffirmed that the Kenya Kwanza government is focused on reviving stalled projects in the region and initiating new development programs to improve the livelihoods of the community.
