Kericho Intensifies Ward-Based Empowerment with Grassroots Focus

Kericho: Kericho County Government has intensified its grassroots development agenda through ward-based empowerment programmes, aimed at improving livelihoods and strengthening service delivery across all the administrative units. Speaking during an empowerment programme held in Chaik Ward, the County Executive Committee Member (CECM) for Roads and Transport Charles Birech, who represented Governor Dr. Eric Mutai, said the county administration remains committed to ensuring equitable distribution of development resources to wananchi at the lowest administrative units.

According to Kenya News Agency, Birech noted that empowerment initiatives remain central to the county’s development strategy, complementing ongoing infrastructure investments, particularly road networks that enhance mobility, market access, and service delivery. The event, organized by area Member of County Assembly, Mathew Korir, brought together residents, local leaders, and community groups, who benefited from various empowerment interventions targeting small-scale traders, youth, and women groups.

The programme is part of a wider county rollout of ward-based engagements, aimed at strengthening household incomes support to micro and small enterprises, table banking groups, and productive agricultural activities. Birech emphasized that the county government was prioritizing programmes that have direct and measurable impact on households. The ward rep noted that access to financial support and productive resources was expected to improve economic resilience among residents.

Korir further observed that the ongoing road infrastructure development across the county was being aligned with economic empowerment efforts to ease movement of goods and services and reduce post-harvest losses among farming communities. Residents who attended the forum welcomed the initiative, noting that such engagements provided a direct link between the county government and the grassroots while enabling communities to express their development priorities.

Local leaders present underscored the importance of continued collaboration between elected leaders and county officials in sustaining development momentum. The programme concluded with renewed calls for unity and active participation in county development initiatives, with leaders reaffirming their commitment to inclusive growth across Kericho county.
