Nairobi:Kenya Harambee Starlets are gearing up for a challenging encounter as they face Malawi in the next round of the CAF Women’s Olympic football qualifiers, aiming for a spot at the Los Angeles 2028 Olympic Games.
According to Kenya News Agency, Malawi advanced to meet Kenya after a decisive 7-0 victory over Zimbabwe in the second leg of their qualifying match, securing a 9-0 aggregate win. This success was powered by the impressive performances of sisters Temwa and Tabitha Chawinga, who led Malawi’s attack.
Kenya’s Harambee Starlets have also showcased their attacking prowess, having demolished Seychelles 22-0 on aggregate, with both legs ending 11-0 at the Ulinzi Sports Complex in Nairobi. This dominant performance allowed interim head coach Godfrey ‘Solo’ Oduor to evaluate his squad and prepare for more challenging matches.
Facing Malawi, who reached the final of the 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations, presents a different challenge. The team’s strong performance against Zimbabwe highlights the threat they pose to Kenya’s Olympic aspirations. Starlets captain Mwanalima Adam remains confident in her team’s readiness and focus on qualifying for the 2028 Olympics.
The upcoming matches, scheduled for February 23 to March 6, 2027, will be crucial in testing Kenya’s progress under Oduor, particularly in defense and midfield organization. With their previous victories providing momentum, the Starlets must combine tactical preparation with their offensive strength to continue their journey to Los Angeles.
