Nanyuki: Out of the 21 million KRA pins available, only 10.5 million users filed their tax returns by June 30, 2025, and from this number, nearly six million filed nil returns. This information was revealed by Kenya Revenue Authority Chairman Ndiritu Muriithi during a media briefing in Nanyuki, Laikipia County.
According to Kenya News Agency, Muriithi emphasized that only four million Kenyans were actively paying taxes. He urged all eligible citizens to fulfill their tax obligations to support national development and improve service delivery. Muriithi stated that the Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA) is focusing on expanding the tax base. Out of 21 million pin numbers, 10.5 million filed returns for the 2024/2025 financial year, with nearly six million filing nil returns.
Muriithi, who previously served as the governor of Laikipia, explained that KRA is implementing a tax base expansion strategy by leveraging technology to encourage non-tax payers to contribute. He stressed the importance of making tax payment processes easier and more accessible for all Kenyans.
In the financial year 2024/2025, KRA successfully collected Sh2.571 trillion, surpassing the revenue target of Sh2.555 trillion by 6.8 percent.
