Nairobi:The Kenyan Government has urged its citizens to prioritize national unity, patriotism, and responsible citizenship in the lead-up to the 2027 General Election. This call aims to safeguard peace and strengthen the country’s democratic institutions during the electoral process.
According to Kenya News Agency, Principal Secretary for National Government Coordination Ahmed Abdisalan Ibrahim emphasized the importance of placing national interests above individual, ethnic, and regional considerations. In a speech delivered by Abednego Etyang, Chairman of the Board of Management for the Kenya Institute of Highway and Building Technology, during World Values Day at the Kenya Railways headquarters, Ibrahim highlighted the constitutional values and principles essential for building a peaceful, united, and prosperous nation.
Ibrahim noted that Article 10 of the Constitution provides a foundation for national development, guiding public institutions, individual conduct, and relations among citizens. The Directorate of National Cohesion and Values has been implementing programs to strengthen families, community leaders, and other stakeholders in promoting national values. A training manual for parents has been utilized in various counties, including Nyamira and Nairobi, to instill ethical values in children and youth.
Emphasizing the role of these values in Kenya’s Vision 2030 development aspirations, Ibrahim called for concerted efforts from government and other stakeholders to mainstream national values across society. The government remains committed to implementing constitutional provisions and strengthening institutions responsible for promoting governance values.
Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission CEO Abdi A. Mohamud echoed these sentiments, calling for greater integrity and accountability in public service. He warned that corruption thrives where ethical standards are compromised and stressed the need for an ethical culture grounded in constitutional values. Mohamud urged public officers to uphold transparency and called on citizens to demand accountability and reject electoral bribery and hate speech.
This year’s World Values Day was marked under the national theme, National Values and Active Citizenship, and the global theme, Values and Volunteerism. The event underscored the importance of civic responsibility and collective action in national development.
