Kenyan female athletes draw attention to gender-based violence

Nairobi: The Common Market for Eastern and Southern Africa (COMESA) has announced the launch of the distributed renewable energy and clean cooking Project Preparation Facility

The recent attack on Ugandan Olympian Rebecca Cheptegei underscores a troubling trend of violence against female athletes in Kenya. The 33-year-old marathon runner, who recently competed in the Paris Olympics, suffered severe burns after being set on fire by her ex-boyfriend. Cheptegei is the latest in a series of athletes to be killed in recent years. While high-profile cases draw attention, about 30 percent of Kenyan women face similar violence, a number that has risen over the past year, as FRANCE 24’s Olivia Bizot reports.
