Nairobi:The Kenya Maritime Authority (KMA) has issued a safety warning to the public and coastal communities about potentially dangerous weather and sea conditions expected along the Kenya coast from September to December 2026.
According to Kenya News Agency, KMA Director General CPA Omae Nyarandi highlighted the risks posed by strong winds, rough seas, high waves, heavy rainfall, and reduced visibility during this period. Such conditions could significantly endanger vessels and individuals engaged in maritime activities.
Nyarandi advised the public to avoid venturing into the sea during adverse weather conditions and emphasized the necessity of wearing life jackets on all vessels. He called on fisherfolk and maritime stakeholders to exercise caution and postpone non-essential sea activities when conditions worsen.
The KMA stressed the importance of coastal communities remaining vigilant and adhering to safety advisories issued by relevant authorities. The public is encouraged to monitor weather forecasts and maritime safety information from the Kenya Meteorological Department and the Kenya Maritime Authority.
In light of changing weather and sea conditions, which can pose hazards to fishermen, boat operators, and tourists, Nyarandi urged informed decision-making before setting out to sea. He reminded the public that preparedness and early incident reporting could mitigate the impact of maritime emergencies.
