Naivasha:The Kenya Electricity Generating Company (KenGen) has officially started preparations for the Sustainable Energy Conference (SEC) 2026, scheduled for November 24 to 27, 2026, at the KenGen Olkaria Geothermal Spa.
According to Kenya News Agency, the conference, themed ‘Powering Africa’s Green Industrial Revolution’, aims to connect Africa’s renewable energy potential with economic growth. Eng. Ronoh Kibet, KenGen’s Acting Managing Director and CEO, highlighted the continent’s financial paradox, noting that despite Africa comprising about 20% of the global population, it receives less than 3% of global energy investments and only 2% in clean energy, leaving around 600 million people without electricity.
Eng. Kibet emphasized the need for investment to transform Africa’s abundant resources, such as solar, wind, and geothermal energy, into economic progress. He stated, “We have the sun, the wind, and the rivers. What we need now is capital, partnerships, and discipline to turn that potential into economic progress.”
The conference is expected to attract over 1,500 delegates from more than 80 countries, including investors, financiers, utilities, and corporate exhibitors. SEC 2026 aims to convert discussions into actionable projects through four strategic pillars benchmarking with global peers, fostering networking, securing financing, and enabling intra-African trade.
KenGen, with a 60% market share in the East African region and an installed capacity of 1,786 MW, primarily from renewable sources, is advancing its mission through the KenGen Green Energy Park at Olkaria. Eng. Kibet underscored the importance of building local industries rather than exporting resources.
The conference invites global stakeholders to Naivasha to bring innovations and investments. Eng. Kibet concluded by challenging the media to help tell a story of transformation beyond the conference, focusing on investments, partnerships, and opportunities created.
