Kapsabet:Activities have intensified as Nandi County prepares for the upcoming Mashujaa Day celebrations. The event, set for October 20, will be jointly hosted with Uasin Gishu and Elgeyo-Marakwet counties, prompting extensive preparations across Kapsabet town, the Nandi County headquarters.
According to Kenya News Agency, Nandi County Commissioner Wilberforce Kilonzo is coordinating the preparations with various government agencies. He stated that all departments are collaborating to ensure the town is ready to host thousands of visitors expected for the celebrations. The preparations involve cooperation between national and county governments, focusing on security, public works, traffic management, cleanliness, and public spaces enhancement.
Kilonzo highlighted that the ongoing infrastructure improvements would benefit residents, traders, and town users beyond the Mashujaa Day event. County Secretary Dr. Francis Sang is also playing a crucial role in the county government’s preparations, stressing the importance of completing infrastructure projects and other activities before the celebrations.
Significant efforts include upgrading roads within Kapsabet and its surroundings, with several urban roads undergoing rehabilitation. These upgrades aim to improve accessibility and enhance the town’s appearance. Dr. Sang noted that the road works would improve connectivity between residential areas, business centers, and key government institutions, easing movement within the rapidly expanding county headquarters.
Additionally, the upgrading of Kipchoge Stadium is a major infrastructure project in preparation for the national event. The stadium is being enhanced to accommodate the large number of guests expected, and other sporting facilities in the region are also being improved.
The preparations have spurred activity in the town’s Central Business District, with traders and service providers anticipating increased business as visitors and stakeholders arrive for the celebrations. The Mashujaa Day event will not only highlight the development potential of the three counties but also provide an opportunity for residents to benefit from the infrastructure improvements made ahead of the national celebrations.
