The Murang’a County Government will present a supplementary budget once the local county assembly convenes.
County Governor Irungu Kang’ata has said this will ensure allocation of funds to cater for priority projects identified by his government.
Among his top development agendas, the governor is targeting to offer free NHIF registration to more than 30, 000 vulnerable people in the area.
He asked the MCAs elect, once sworn into office to pass a motion, which will see the county administration enlist some of the poor residents with the national health scheme.
Kang’ata elaborated that the health cover will go a long way to ensure that majority of the Murang’a residents access cheap medical care, adding that they will also strive to guarantee that all public hospitals are well stocked with drugs.
“Once the MCAs start their sessions, we will pass a supplementary budget which will conform with our manifesto. Our priority is on health care and to relieve our people from untold suffering is to enroll them with NHIF.
MCAs will help in identifying the less fortunate who will be registered with the scheme,” said Kang’ata saying the envisaged cover will have more benefits than the normal one.
He explained the beneficiaries will equally access dental and optical services to be provided by the Kenneth Matiba hospital, established by the former county regime.
“Those who will be enlisted by the county administration will also be factored in at last expense amounting to Sh100,00 when one passes on. We are working to sign a memorandum of understanding with NHIF,” he added.
Kang’ata spoke as he flagged off drugs worth Sh29 million to be distributed to all local public health facilities on Monday.
The county assembly is expected to be convened after IEBC gives names of the nominated MCAs.
He further observed that garbage collection needs to be prioritized, noting that currently there are not enough trucks to ferry solid waste to the dumpsite.
“Majority of local towns are currently faced by a challenge of uncollected garbage. In the supplementary budget we seek to get funds to buy trucks to help in collection of garbage. Clean environment will promote the ease of doing business in local trading centres,” added Kang’ata.
