Sh7 Million Worth Of Relief Food & Medical Supplies Disbursed

The County Government of Kisumu has embarked on distribution of relief food and medical supplies to households affected by flash floods in the area.
Over 1, 000 people are set to benefit from the program after suffering losses due to the ongoing rains in the area.
Kisumu Deputy Governor Dr. Mathew Owili who flagged off the consignment at the county headquarters on Tuesday said the exercise being carried out in collaboration with the Kenya Red cross and UNICEF will cost the taxpayer Sh. 7 million.
The distribution to be carried out for five days, he said will benefit residents of Nyalenda B, Kapuodhe, Wigwa, Manga, Dunga and Gem Rae who have been affected by floods.
Through the county department of health, he added, the affected will also get free medical supplies and treatment to contain the spread of communicable diseases.
The department of public works, he added, has embarked on desilting of rivers in the area to contain flooding.
The exercise which kicked off over the weekend, he said targets to unclog all rivers and drainage systems to ensure water flows freely as more rains are expected.
An emergency response center, he added, has been established at the county headquarters to coordinate emergency response.
