Kaluma Elected as ODM Homa Bay County Chair, Focuses on Unity and Recruitment

Homa bay: Homa Bay Town constituency legislator Peter Kaluma has been elected as the County ODM party chairperson. Kaluma announced that they will now embark on recruiting new members, ahead of the 2027 elections. He said he will use his office to unite party members.

According to Kenya News Agency, the leadership of the party has been hotly contested, often leading to division among members. Kaluma emphasized the importance of unity within the party, stating, “Leadership of the party has been hotly contested and they have always divided us. We are now focused on uniting the party.”

The ODM party began conducting grassroots elections last year. “Delegates drawn from all branches took part in the exercise. Officials were elected through consensus,” Kaluma explained. He called on the national ODM chairperson Gladys Wanga and the party leader Dr. Oburu Oginga to support his efforts in strengthening the party at the county level.

Other officials who were elected alongside Kaluma include Kwabwai ward MCA Richar
d Ogindo as Deputy Chairperson, Eve Obara as Secretary, Lucy Manyala as Organizing Secretary, and Ouma Odongo as Treasurer. Rangwe MP Lilian Gogo urged the newly elected officials to use their positions to bolster the party’s presence and address grievances through proper channels.

Dr. Gogo highlighted the significance of ODM as a national party, calling on members from the lake region to set an example. “ODM is a national party and members from the lake region must lead by example. Let us work hard and ensure we can command all elective positions,” she stated.

Richard Ogindo, the Kwabwai ward representative, encouraged party members to prepare for the 2027 elections. “We expect to sweep all elective posts. We will use our force to ensure only ODM candidates are elected,” Ogindo declared.
