Kakamega: Western Regional Commissioner Allan Machari has directed chiefs and assistant chiefs in Kakamega County to reactivate and reinforce security committees within their jurisdictions to combat insecurity more effectively. Machari issued this directive during an introductory meeting with over 400 National Government Administrative Officers (NGAO) at Masinde Muliro University of Science and Technology.
According to Kenya News Agency, Machari reminded the administrators that their primary responsibilities include coordinating security, fostering national development, and promoting peaceful coexistence within their areas. He emphasized the importance of ensuring that security committees are active and collaborative. Machari stated, “Security is managed through committees,” highlighting the multi-agency approach involving the NGAO, the National Police Service, village elders, and the nyumba kumi initiative.
Machari further instructed the administrators to utilize their teams efficiently to tackle criminal gangs and unauthorized security providers, stressing that only police should manage security at political gatherings. He noted that private security providers would be treated as criminals. Machari urged for a decisive plan of action from each deputy county commissioner to address criminal activities, including necessary assistance from his office.
Kakamega County Commissioner Taari Rwaria also advised the administrators to remain focused on their core duties and avoid political engagements that might hinder their ability to serve the public impartially.
