Eldoret: The Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) is currently assessing waste volume and composition in major towns, with a focus on Uasin Gishu County where the team has been active since last week. The initiative is part of ongoing efforts to enhance sustainable solid waste management practices.

According to Kenya News Agency, the survey is primarily centered on solid waste categorization across high, middle, and low-income areas, including Eldoret City. The team’s visit aims to advance the implementation of the Waste and Composition Survey (WACS), an initiative designed to generate data that will inform long-term waste management strategies.

Mark Some, the County Chief Officer for Environment, who led the Uasin Gishu team, praised the initiative. He noted, “We are on the verge of creating a greener and cleaner county and city for all. We will give maximum cooperation and deploy enough officers to fast-track and actualize the completion of this survey.”

The partnership represents a significant milestone in enhancing the county’s capacity for sustainable waste management. It is expected to pave the way for a better-organized urban environment.
