Makueni: Police in Makueni Subcounty have initiated an inquiry to determine the primary cause of a fire that engulfed a dormitory at Kyamuthei Boys School on Tuesday. Speaking to Kenya News Agency on Wednesday, Makueni Subcounty Police Commander Winnie Siele confirmed that the Directorate of Criminal Investigation (DCI) at the Subcounty is managing the investigation.
According to Kenya News Agency, the fire occurred at 2 pm and resulted in the destruction of property belonging to 62 students, though the value of the damaged property remains undetermined. Makueni Subcounty Director of Education (SCDE) Richard Ng’ang’a confirmed that no students were injured during the incident, as they were in class at the time. Ng’ang’a also noted that nothing was salvaged from the fire.
Ng’ang’a further stated that the school’s Board of Management was convening on Wednesday to make decisions regarding the continuation of classes. He highlighted that the dormitory’s roof collapsed during the fire, leading to the destruction of students’ belongings. Despite the damage, Ng’ang’a emphasized that no injuries were reported among the students.
