India Donates Medical Supplies to Kenya for Ebola Preparedness

Nairobi:India has donated 11 tonnes of medical supplies and specialized equipment to Kenya to enhance the country’s preparedness for Ebola and improve its public health emergency response. The consignment, which includes protective gear, laboratory safety equipment, and cold-chain facilities, was handed over by India’s High Commissioner to Kenya, Dr. Adarsh Swaika, to Principal Secretary for Public Health Mary Muthoni at the Kenya Medical Supplies Authority (KEMSA) headquarters in Nairobi.

According to Kenya News Agency, the supplies include 30,000 N95 masks, over 7,000 impermeable protective gowns, approximately 10,000 heavy-duty nitrile gloves, 60 powered air-purifying respirators, six Class II/III biosafety cabinets, and four cold-chain refrigerators. This equipment is intended to strengthen infection prevention and control, improve laboratory biosafety, and enhance the protection of frontline healthcare workers.

This donation builds on India’s previous support to Kenya’s Ebola preparedness, which included about five tonnes of essential medical supplies handed over to Health Cabinet Secretary Aden Duale on July 22, 2026. In May 2026, India also donated more than 45 tonnes of medical supplies to the Africa Centre for Disease Control and Prevention to support regional preparedness and response to Ebola.

The latest assistance comes as Kenya works to bolster its capacity to respond to public health emergencies. The equipment is expected to support healthcare personnel and facilities involved in disease prevention and control. India and Kenya have maintained cooperation in healthcare, and the High Commissioner noted that the assistance reflects the two countries’ longstanding partnership and commitment to strengthening public health systems and emergency response capabilities through medical support, training, and institutional cooperation.
