The Independent Elections and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) has assured voters in Trans Nzoia County of its adequate preparation in readiness for Tuesday’s General Elections.
County IEBC Manager Mr. John Cox Lorionokou made the assurance in a briefing with Kenya News Agency (KNA) Monday.
According to Lorionokou, the Returning Officers had ensured all ballot boxes and all requisite materials for every polling station were in place, adding the poll officials were ready to move the materials to designated polling stations
The IEBC County Manager assured members of public the agency had prepared everything needed in the County.
“All systems for the county are set and as a commission we are ready. We have all the materials required in all the five Sub Counties for the important exercise ahead. As a commission, we are ready to kick off the actual voting on Tuesday 6am to 5pm,” Lorionokou told KNA.
He further confirmed the government had deployed adequate security personnel that will be in charge of the eagerly awaited national exercise.
The official appealed to the electorate in the County to turn out in numbers and participate in the national poll exercise, describing it as an opportunity for Kenyans to democratically put in power leaders capable of steering the nation’s economic growth and development agenda.
According to official IEBC data, Trans Nzoia County has a total of 399,230 registered voters. “A total of 376 candidates are vying for the available elective seats in the County,” disclosed Lorionokou.
Out of the figure, 303 candidates are battling for 25 county assembly slots, 45 for Members of National Assembly, 12 (Senator), 9 (County Woman Representative) and 7 (gubernatorial).
The commission has designated five tallying centres, one per Sub County, with the overall county tallying centre being at Kitale Girls Secondary School.
Speaking separately, area County Commissioner Mr Samson Ojwang reassured the locals of maximum security.
He, however, urged the residents to return to their various homes immediately after casting their ballot.
“Save for IEBC accredited officials and individuals, County security agents have firm instructions on how to deal with individuals that would attempt to hang aimlessly around the voting centers,” stated Ojwang.
