Homa bay: Homa Bay County has once again stamped its authority in academic excellence after leading secondary schools recorded strong performances in the recent KCSE results.
According to Kenya News Agency, among the institutions that stood out were Asumbi Girls High School and Mbita High School, both of which posted impressive mean scores and high university transition rates. Asumbi Girls, located in Rangwe Sub-County, recorded a mean score of 9.7844, with all its 914 candidates attaining grades that qualify for direct university admission. The school produced nine A (plain) grades, 178 A-, 396 B+, 293 B, 54 B-, and four C+. Principal Linet Sati attributed the performance to collective effort and discipline among learners. She mentioned that the support from parents, teachers, and the Board of Management played a key role in this achievement, adding that the results reflected resilience, despite the school falling slightly short of its internal targets.
In Suba North, Mbita High School posted a mean score of 9.2648, translating to a 92 percent transition rate to university. Out of the 525 candidates who sat the examinations, 37 scored A, 113 A-, 120 B+, and 104 B (plain). The school’s principal, Kennedy Ojijo, described the results as a reward for sustained academic planning and teamwork.
Agoro Sare High School also scored a remarkable 9.392 mean score, while Ogande Girls High scored 9.085, displaying an improvement from its 2024 mean score of 8.18. However, Orero Boys High School recorded a mean score of 8.865, a decline compared to its 2024 mean score of 9.42, with one A (plain), 24 A-, and 144 B+ among its 663 candidates. Deputy Principal Paul Anangwe stated that the institution would review its strategies to improve performance in future examinations.
Other schools like Homa Bay High School and Obera Boys High School recorded mean scores of 8.287 and 8.148, respectively. On the other hand, Wikoteng Mixed Secondary, a mixed school, recorded a mean score of 7.265.
