Nairobi: The Higher Education Loans Board (HELB) has disbursed a total of Sh1.56 billion for tuition and upkeep for university students and Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) trainees. This funding aims to support the academic pursuits of students enrolled in these institutions.

According to Kenya News Agency, a total of 31,263 TVET trainees and 33,863 university students will benefit from the loan disbursements. In a press statement sent to newsrooms, the Cabinet Secretary for Education, Julius Ogamba, confirmed that HELB has already notified the students and trainees set to receive the funds through its official communication channels.

Ogamba advised the beneficiaries to check their HELB portals for confirmation. He further stated that in the Financial Year 2024/2025, HELB has disbursed a total of Sh32.7 billion in upkeep and tuition loans to 195,522 trainees in TVET institutions and 390,612 students in universities.

Ogamba emphasized the importance of this funding in ensuring that student and trainee needs are met, facilitating their academic, training, and research programs without any hindrance. He assured that the government remains committed to providing financial support to university students and TVET trainees in achieving their academic and training objectives.
