Graduates have been challenged to embrace technology and become entrepreneurial to beat unemployment.
Zetech University Vice Chancellor Prof Njenga Munene said being techno-preneurial would make them competitive noting that modern technology is hastily taking up most jobs.
The VC who spoke at the University at the Ruiru main campus during a graduation ceremony where some 1,786 graduands were conferred with Degrees, Diplomas and Certificates said a lot of jobs were now in the technology sector, advising the students to embrace the growing field to earn.
He added that the government has grown ICT connectivity across the country helping entrepreneurs in the field to thrive as well as open up opportunities for youths to embrace and make a living.
Munene said joblessness could be beaten if universities and colleges refocus on their training areas towards ICT and entrepreneurship, noting that close to 70 percent of jobs will be occupied by technological advancements in the near future.
“Students must be techno-preneurial because there’s a wide application of technology in almost all areas. Therefore don’t miss on the relevant technology,” he said
He said to equip students with entrepreneurial skills, the university has established an entrepreneurial ecosystem incubation hub to grow students’ business ideas and innovations and later graduate them to industrial parks.
Also, they have introduced entrepreneurship as a unit for all Zetech learners.
The VC at the same time said they have introduced the Masters Programme in the university informed by the high demand of the programme.
“We are committed to delivering a quality programme to our students. We have entered into partnership with various industry players who will give our students industrial exposure as they study. This will ensure that we produce competent and innovative leaders in their respective fields,” Munene said.
