Vihiga: Vihiga county governor Dr. Wilber Ottichillo, in partnership with Equity Bank, has led residents in a countywide clean-up exercise to mark Mazingira Day. The event aimed at promoting cleanliness, waste management, and environmental responsibility across the county.
According to Kenya News Agency, speaking during the exercise, Dr. Ottichillo urged residents to embrace cleanliness as a personal duty, noting that maintaining a healthy environment was key to preventing diseases. He emphasized the potential of turning waste into wealth through recycling, citing examples such as converting plastic waste and using vegetable remains to make fertilizer.
Equity Bank Vihiga Branch Manager Jane Ogutu commended the partnership, stating that the initiative also marked the conclusion of the bank’s International Customer Week celebrations. Ogutu expressed the bank’s satisfaction in joining the community for this cause, highlighting the importance of promoting a cleaner environment.
The county Ag. County Commissioner Florence Sitawa applauded the joint effort, urging residents to take collective responsibility in maintaining cleanliness instead of relying solely on the county government. She emphasized that environmental conservation begins with individual actions and is a shared responsibility.
The clean-up exercise brought together county officials, Equity Bank staff, and members of the public, all united in the effort to make the county cleaner, healthier, and greener.
