Chuka:The government has introduced a National Digital Class Experience in junior schools to showcase how technology can transform teaching and learning across the country. This initiative was launched in all 47 counties, with a notable event taking place at Chuka Township Junior School in Chuka-Igambang’ombe Constituency.
According to Kenya News Agency, Betsy Njagi, Principal Secretary of the State Department for Blue Economy and Fisheries, presided over the event. She emphasized that the initiative aims to provide equal access to digital learning for all learners and to help them develop essential skills for the digital economy. Njagi highlighted that more than 64,000 teachers nationwide have been trained to incorporate digital technology into their teaching practices.
The event also featured the announcement that over 60 teachers have been trained specifically in the county, and 33 interactive smart boards have been distributed to enhance classroom learning. The government plans to continue expanding the program, ensuring schools are equipped with the necessary digital tools and that teachers possess the skills to use them effectively.
Njagi further explained that the initiative would foster knowledge exchange and collaborative learning by allowing teachers and learners to interact via digital platforms, regardless of their physical locations. The digital classroom initiative, part of the Kenya Digital Economy Acceleration Project (KDEAP) supported by the World Bank, aims to improve digital infrastructure, skills, and access to digital services.
Chuka-Igambang’ombe MP, Patrick Munene, hailed the initiative as a significant advancement in the education sector. He noted that the adoption of digital technology would prepare learners for participation in the country’s expanding digital economy. The introduction of interactive smart boards and teacher laptops is part of the government’s broader effort to integrate technology in public junior schools.
Njagi also advised parents to monitor their children’s use of digital devices, particularly during school holidays, to prevent access to inappropriate online content. She encouraged students to use digital platforms responsibly and to leverage technology to enhance their educational experience.
