Karachuonyo: The government is keen on installing power connection to households in the entire country in the Last Mile Connectivity programme. Cabinet Secretary for Energy Opiyo Wandayi reiterates the government’s commitment to evenly distribute electricity connectivity to the national grid for economic growth and improving livelihoods. The CS who was launching a Sh300 million last-mile connectivity in Karachuonyo constituency said no regions in the country will be left behind.
According to Kenya News Agency, the CS stated, ‘We are rolling out this program across the country. No part of the country is going to be left behind under the direction and guidance of President William Ruto.’ CS Wandayi launched the last mile connectivity in Sanda village and Chuth area in Karachuonyo constituency, Homabay County, emphasizing the president’s directive to ensure that no region, community, or county is neglected as the country progresses.
The CS mentioned that his visit to Homabay County was specifically for launching various electricity connectivity projects. He noted that for the first time, Karachuonyo constituency and Homabay County have received substantial funding from the national government to extend electricity to households. ‘This financial year, the constituency of Karachuonyo has been allocated Sh300 million to connect some 4500 households. Similarly, Homabay County has been allocated Sh2.1 billion to connect about 25000 households to electricity,’ the CS said.
However, CS Wandayi acknowledged that while the allocation is significant, it is still not enough. He remarked, ‘It is a big step forward, taking into consideration that this place has been in darkness for a very long time.’ The CS was accompanied by Rachuonyo North Sub County Deputy County Commissioner Aaron Koss and area MP Andrew Odipo Kuome, who praised the national government’s efforts in bringing electricity to communities across the country, particularly in his constituency.
