Government Intensifies Crackdown on Criminal Gangs in Homa Bay

Homa Bay:The government has ramped up its efforts to combat criminal gangs and their sponsors in Homa Bay County. Interior and National Administration Principal Secretary Raymond Omollo announced that decisive action would be taken against those involved.

According to Kenya News Agency, Omollo emphasized the commitment of security agencies to restore peace and safeguard traders from intimidation and business disruptions. Speaking at a traders’ empowerment event in Ndhiwa East Sub-County, he affirmed that criminal activities undermining security and economic activities would not be tolerated.

Omollo specifically warned those targeting businesspeople that they would face strict actions from security agencies determined to protect the business community. He urged young people to avoid crime and focus on legitimate economic activities, highlighting that criminal behavior threatens their future and the county’s development.

Businesses, according to Omollo, are vital for economic growth and improving household welfare, and traders should be able to operate in a secure environment. He explained that business income supports families in education and building homes and called on traders to utilize government financial programs like the Hustler Fund to expand their businesses.

Lang’ata MP Phelix Odiwuor also condemned youth activities that threaten public safety, warning against using difficult circumstances to disrupt peace. He noted that the government would take firm action against those involved in criminal behavior, including substance abuse-related activities.

In the past week, over 40 youths suspected of being involved in criminal activities have been arrested as security agencies intensify their crackdown in Homa Bay County.
