Nairobi:The uncertainty surrounding the start of the 2026/27 football season has intensified as members of the Football Kenya Federation (FKF) National Executive Committee (NEC) demand urgent action to address the ongoing governance crisis and bring stability back to Kenyan football.
According to Kenya News Agency, the NEC members have expressed concerns that the current impasse is affecting the start of the new season and the overall functioning of the federation. This, in turn, is impacting the confidence of clubs, players, coaches, officials, sponsors, and other stakeholders.
The NEC members have criticized the reliance on public statements and are calling for practical and immediate solutions to advance Kenyan football. At the heart of the dispute is the delay in the 2026/27 season’s commencement, and the strained relationship between FKF’s leadership and ongoing court proceedings.
The NEC insists that the federation must adhere to existing court directives while resolving issues within its constitutio
nal framework. They opposed suggestions for the Judiciary to avoid football matters, citing past instances where FKF approached ordinary courts, such as the Nairobi United FC and Gor Mahia FC case.
The NEC emphasized that FKF should act within the law and comply with court directives to ensure a stable football calendar. Another significant issue is the absence of fully operational internal judicial and dispute-resolution bodies. While FKF’s Constitution provides for internal mechanisms to handle disputes, these have not been established, leading members to seek legal recourse.
The NEC members also highlighted concerns about the Acting General Secretary/CEO, whose six-month acting tenure has expired without lawful extension. They called for a legitimate appointment to ensure administrative stability amid ongoing court cases.
Additionally, there are allegations of alteration or manipulation of NEC meeting minutes, prompting demands for accurate official records. To resolve the deadlock, the NEC urged the FK
F president to convene a properly constituted NEC meeting swiftly. They want the meeting to focus on the 2026/27 season schedule, the establishment of judicial bodies, and the appointment of an Acting General Secretary/CEO.
The NEC members also stressed the need for the immediate start of all FKF competitions, including promotion and relegation play-offs, in line with FKF regulations and court directives. Despite these concerns, the NEC members remain open to dialogue through recognized institutional procedures and are willing to participate in a properly constituted meeting soon.
The statement concluded by framing the crisis as a collective responsibility, urging constitutional compliance, adherence to court rulings, and genuine dialogue within FKF’s appropriate organs. The NEC members affirmed their commitment to restoring stability, certainty, and confidence in Kenyan football.
