Embu: Faith Star FC from Mbeere North Constituency clinched this year’s Embu Governor’s Cup, defeating Marvelous FC from Manyatta Constituency with a single goal. The decisive goal came from Daniel Murathi during an indirect free-kick in the final moments of the first half, witnessed by a packed crowd at Moi Stadium in Embu Town.

According to Kenya News Agency, Faith Star FC received a cash prize of Sh600,000, while runners-up Marvelous FC were awarded Sh400,000. The awards were presented in a ceremony led by Cabinet Secretary for Public Service Geoffrey Ruku. In the women’s final, Kirimari Ladies FC from Manyatta Constituency emerged victorious, defeating Santos Starlets FC from Mbeere South Constituency 4-0. Kirimari Ladies took home Sh400,000, and Santos Starlets received Sh300,000.

Governor Cecily Mbarire ensured that all teams participating from the ward and sub-county levels were provided with uniforms and balls. She pledged to enhance the tournament by increasing its budget and prize awards to support more grassroots teams, aiming to nurture young football talents and elevate strong county teams into national leagues.

Currently, Embu County’s 3K FC competes in the National Super League. The Governor voiced optimism that with ongoing support, more local teams will soon enter top-tier football. She also noted that her administration is committed to developing and upgrading football infrastructure across the county to promote sports participation and talent growth.

CS Ruku praised the teams for their performances, describing the tournament as a celebration of talent, unity, and passion among the youth. He also announced a Sh1 million donation from Deputy President Prof. Kithure Kindiki to support the participating teams.
