Mbeere north: Deputy President Kithure Kindiki has openly criticized his predecessor, Rigathi Gachagua, for engaging in politics characterized by hate, ethnicity, and division amid the ongoing by-election campaigns in the Mbeere North Constituency. Speaking at several campaign stops in support of UDA candidate Leomard Muthende, Prof. Kindiki dismissed Gachagua as an ineffective leader lacking influence.
According to Kenya News Agency, Prof. Kindiki accused Gachagua of falsely presenting himself as a leading figure in the Mt Kenya region, despite having no substantial achievements during his brief tenure as Deputy President. He argued that Gachagua’s current attempts to charm voters as the region’s de facto leader are baseless, as he failed to deliver any development for the people of Mbeere North during his time in office.
Kindiki urged residents to make a well-informed decision by electing Muthende, whom he described as the best candidate to attract development and ensure the continuation of programs initiated by Geoffrey Ruku, who was recently appointed as a Cabinet Secretary. He emphasized the importance of choosing unity, development, and progress over chaos, empty political rhetoric, and the disrespect for elected leaders promoted by the opposition.
In his endorsement of Muthende, Kindiki expressed confidence in a decisive victory for the UDA candidate, which he claimed would put an end to the opposition’s boasting. Meanwhile, Gachagua, who is actively campaigning for United Opposition candidate Newton Karish, has accused the government of deceiving residents with unfulfilled project promises in an attempt to secure votes.
Gachagua criticized the government for neglecting the area and argued that electing a pro-government candidate does not guarantee change. He highlighted Karish’s experience, having served three consecutive terms as MCA for Muminji Ward, as evidence of his understanding of the region’s challenges and his capability to advocate for positive change.
