Wajir: Deputy Inspector General (DIG) of Police Eliud Lagat has praised the residents, security agencies, and local leaders of Wajir for their roles in making the county one of the safest in the nation. During a visit to Wajir, accompanied by a high-level security team, Lagat shared that his purpose was to assess the security situation and support the officers working in the region.
According to Kenya News Agency, Deputy Inspector General Lagat expressed satisfaction with the security arrangements in Wajir, noting that the county, and by extension Wajir town, are among the safest places. The team accompanying him included the Deputy Inspector General for Administration Police, Gilbert Masengeli, and Wajir County Commissioner Karuku Ngumo.
Lagat attributed the prevailing peace in Wajir to the close cooperation among the Kenya Defense Forces (KDF), National Police Service, National Government Administration Officers (NGAO), Prison Service, National Police Reservists (NPR), and the community. He acknowledged the residents for sharing intelligence with security personnel, which has enabled quick responses to prevent crime. He also commended the political leadership, peace committees, and community elders for their efforts in fostering unity and harmonious coexistence.
He emphasized that this cooperation is an exemplary model of how security should be managed and expressed a commitment to continue partnerships to enhance socio-economic activities in Wajir. The assessment mission also focused on the welfare and mental health of police officers, as Lagat noted that a conducive working environment could improve their service delivery effectiveness.
Lagat recognized the contributions of chiefs and assistant chiefs in maintaining peace and assured them of the National Police Service’s continued support. He mentioned that his recent visits to Mandera and Wajir counties are part of the government’s broader efforts to enhance security and stability in Northern Kenya.
